Chapter 3
3.
I stared daggers at Quinn.
"Weston, she's the one. She's the person who hit me that night!"
Quinn's expression flickered for a split second. Then, she put on that wide-eyed, innocent mask again.
"Grace, I know you're upset with me, but that's a horrible thing to say. How could you accuse me of something so illegal?"
I remembered the police report.
The street had no cameras, and there were no witnesses.
But no one knew that before I blacked out, I saw the driver get out. I saw her face as she looked down at me.
Seeing my silence, Quinn rushed to Weston's side. She grabbed his arm, her eyes brimming with tears.
"Weston, she must be so heartbroken that she's hallucinating. You know me. I could never do something so heartless."
Weston scowled. He patted her shoulder to calm her down.
"Don't worry. I believe you."
He turned back to me, his eyes full of exhaustion and disgust.
"Grace, haven't you had enough? I know losing the baby was hard, but it was your own clumsiness. Why are you trying to ruin a girl's life over your own mistake?"
"Wes is right," someone from the back added.
"Grace, it's over. It was dark. You probably just saw a shadow. Quinn doesn't look like a killer."
I clenched my fists so hard my nails drew blood. My chest was heaving.
"Weston Sterling, you're actually blaming me?"
"Well, isn't it your fault?"
Weston's voice boomed. His irritation turned into full-blown rage.
"Grace, you're always like this. You cling to things and try to make everyone miserable just because you are."
Quinn seized the moment. Her voice was soft, but her words were poison.
"Weston, she just lost her light. She's unstable. Don't be too hard on her."
Those words gave Weston the perfect excuse to explode. He waved his hand dismissively.
"You've clearly been cooped up at home too long. You're losing your mind. Go out on the balcony and get some air. Maybe the cold will wake you up!"
He grabbed my wrist before I could react and dragged me toward the glass doors.
I stumbled, hitting the floor hard. A sharp, familiar pain flared in my lower abdomen.
"Ah..." Cold sweat broke out on my forehead. I clutched my stomach.
"Weston, it hurts. Please, take me to the hospital..."
He paused for a second, his expression wavering.
But Quinn cut in immediately, her tone dismissive.
"Grace, the miracle is already gone. What could possibly hurt now? Aren't you being a bit much?"
Weston's face hardened instantly. Any trace of pity vanished, replaced by loathing.
"Are you done acting, Grace? You already lost the baby. Stop using that as a shield!"
He stepped onto the balcony, dragged me across the concrete, and slammed the door. He locked it with a heavy click.
That's everything available right now.
