Chapter 2

2

Amara's face turned pale instantly, and she hid behind my mother, trembling.

"I didn't want to steal Jade's spotlight. It's all my fault."

My mother pulled Amara into her arms to comfort her while giving me a look of pure disgust.

"Jade, I raised you to be a humble girl. How can you be so resentful and petty?"

My father chimed in loudly, "Apologize to Amara right now!"

Amara looked up from my mother's arms and gave me a smirk that only I could see.

I bit my lip hard as images of my past life flashed through my mind.

My parents and Caleb had been just as aggressive back then, shouting that Amara was their real family.

They had cut ties with me without a single drop of hesitation.

They even cheered when Amara framed me and watched as I was led to my execution.

I finally understood that the moment Amara stepped into this house, my family was no longer mine.

It was like she had cast a spell on them, making them follow her blindly.

They didn't even care when she eventually drained every penny from the family estate.

In my last life, I tried to wake them up, but they just called me jealous and pathetic.

The Miller family was walking straight into a hell that Amara had built for them.

But this time, I wasn't going down with them.

Since Amara's room wasn't ready yet, my parents told her to share my bedroom.

The thought of breathing the same air as her made me feel physically sick.

I turned around and started packing my things, planning to sleep on the living room floor for the night.

Amara followed me inside and immediately swept my textbooks and pens off the desk.

She replaced them with her own bag, claiming my space as her own.

Seeing my cold reaction, Amara finally dropped her act.

"Why does a loser like you get such a warm family while a genius like me had to suffer?" she hissed.

"Just wait. This house, these parents, and everything you own will be mine soon."

I didn't even look at her as I gathered my things.

"I don't care about this family as much as you think. If you want them, take them. You're just picking up my scraps."

Amara's chest heaved with anger, but she quickly calmed down and a wicked look filled her eyes.

"Enjoy your arrogance while it lasts, Jade."

As soon as she spoke, she grabbed a pile of her own awards and certificates she had brought with her.

She ripped them into tiny pieces and ran out of the room, crying hysterically.

"Jade! Please don't tear them! Those were my only memories from my old school!"

"I'm sorry! I'll leave! I don't deserve to share a room with you!"

My parents and Caleb came running and found Amara sitting in a pile of shredded paper.

She looked so small and broken, sobbing her heart out on the floor.
