Chapter 2

"Claire? Claire, what are you thinking about?"

I snapped back to reality and found Tara looking at me with a pout, holding my arm.

Looking at her pretty, fake face, I instinctively threw her hand off.

I grabbed her hair and delivered a stinging slap to her cheek.

My hand didn't pass through her. It hit her hard.

I was stunned.

Wasn't I killed by Tyler? How...

Seeing Tara burst into tears, my heart skipped a beat.

I had been reborn!

I glanced at the calendar. I was back a year ago, right before I was sent to the asylum.

Tara was furious now. She grabbed my hand and demanded to know why I hit her.

My face went cold as I ripped the necklace off her neck. "Isn't this my necklace? Why do you have it?"

Guilt flashed in her eyes, but she straightened her neck. "We're best friends! What's wrong with me borrowing it? You're so rich, why are you being so dramatic?"

Her words made me explode. I grabbed her hair and slammed her head against the coffee table.

"Since you like taking my things so much, let's see how much you like this!"

Tara struggled, crying out that she was sorry.

Hearing her apology, I let go and then grabbed my own head, screaming at the top of my lungs.

"My head hurts so much! I think I'm going crazy!"

Seeing this, a look of hidden joy appeared on Tara's face. She immediately started comforting me.

She helped me into my room and brought me a glass of warm water.

She placed two vitamins in my palm and urged me to take them.

Looking at those pills and her fake concern, a chill ran down my spine.

In my last life, these were the pills that started my mental decline and led to my death.

I pretended to put the pills in my mouth and told her I needed to sleep.

Tara tucked me in and even closed the door gently.

As soon as she left, I spat the pills out. Seeing them slightly melted made my heart freeze.
