Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Everyone left the foundation to realize what had happened, Sally, when she saw that the woman who was lying on the floor was part of the newcomers, ran towards her.
The first thing she did was to hug the little boy before Thomas' bewildered look.
"Do you know them?" He asked nervously.
"Yes sir, they arrived last night at the foundation, what I don't understand is why Rous ran away, sir, please help her.
"That's what I try, I was an idiot, I didn't want to do this to him," Thomas crouched on the floor, pulled the hair a little from Rous' face, to make sure he was still breathing. The ambulance siren was getting closer and closer, he took her hand and looked at her sweetly, even without knowing who it was, because the blood covered her face and did not allow him to recognize her immediately.
"Forgive me!" I didn't mean to do this to you, please forgive me, you're going to be better.
Rous could barely open his mouth in a groan and whispered a few words.
"My son, please, my son," was the only thing that came out of his mouth.
"Don't worry, she'll be in good hands, don't worry," Thomas shed a tear, he was so miserable to be unhappy about the woman's life, that he only wished he hadn't gone to the foundation that day.
A few minutes later, the ambulance took Rous away, while Thomas accompanied her all the way, the little boy was left in the care of Sally, who with a broken heart did not know how to explain what her mother was going through.
As soon as they arrived at the hospital, Rous was immediately admitted, leaving Thomas with uncertainty about his health, fortunately for him, the police immediately verified that it was an accident and only promised him to cover the expenses, something that did not represent any problem for him, it was the least he could do for the poor woman.
The days went by, and Rous's condition was difficult, she did not wake up from the coma, Thomas did not stop visiting her for a single day, not only because he was the one who ran her over, but because her face became familiar to her.
Precisely, Thomas recognized who that scent belonged to: Rous Howard, his great college love. What a coincidence! He always longed to meet her again, but not in such a heartbreaking situation. Although her mind was flooded with countless questions, all that remained was to wait for her to regain consciousness to find the answers.
"There are only three months left, Thomas!" And we haven't planned anything for the wedding yet? What are you waiting for? Aranza snorted, tearing him from his thoughts.
"I know, honey. I swear I've been aware, but other personal matters have occupied me," Thomas replied.
"Which ones, Thomas?" The woman you ran over. Your lawyer will take care of that. Give him a sum of money and you're done. You can't neglect our wedding anymore.
Thomas couldn't stand his fiancée. Every word that came out of his mouth seemed to drill into his brain. At that moment, the only thing that mattered to him was Rous's recovery.
"No more, please!" Thomas shouted. Surprised, Aranza clenched her fists and, before launching a string of insults, left the office.
Thomas dropped his head on the desk. The helplessness of not being able to get Rous out of that hospital bed was destroying him. As he looked up, he noticed that the light on his phone was flickering. It was an incoming call.
"Hello! - he replied automatically.
"Mr. Mitchel, we're calling from the federal hospital. It is to inform you that Mrs. Rous has woken up. If you want to come..." Thomas didn't even let the woman on the other end of the line finish. He grabbed his jacket and ran away.
It was obvious that he wanted to see her. His footsteps echoed quickly until he reached his car. His heart was beating so fast that it seemed about to burst out of his chest. In less than twenty minutes, Thomas arrived at the hospital.
When he looked out the window of Rous's room, he felt his body shudder; She was there, helpless and gravely ill because of him. Before entering, he had to swallow the lump that was tightening his throat. The nurse spotted his reflection and with a gesture signaled him to come in. Embarrassed and nervous, Thomas walked over. Rous barely rolled his eyes to look at him and also turned pale. Although her memories were scarce, she knew that he was the one who ran her over, and the thought of losing her social status in front of him made her want to faint.
"Hello," he greeted her sweetly.
"Hello," Rose replied weakly.
"How do you feel?" Thomas didn't know where to start the conversation, so he opted for the simplest question.
"I don't know, I think I'm better. Where is my child? Rous was worried about Elian.
"He's fine, at the foundation with Sally. He has missed you very much, but I have not been allowed to bring him to see you. "Also..." Thomas lowered his head. "I didn't think it was convenient.
"Thank you, Thomas," he called his name. There was no longer any point in hiding their poverty. After all, to escape the truth, he had run her over.
"Do you remember me?" asked Thomas confused. She gave him a shy smile and nodded her head.
"Yes, but you almost killed me," she added sarcastically.
"It was an accident, but I'll see to it that everything is sorted out." I'll give you a good compensation.
"I don't think it's necessary, Thomas. I'm going to be fine. Rous had to look away so that he wouldn't notice that the tears were about to flow. Their situation was chaotic, and with everything that was happening, an even more difficult period was ahead.
"Rous, you were fine when, being an idiot, I ran the car over you. The right thing to do is to allow me to redeem myself. Besides, I must; On that condition, the police did not take me to jail.
Rous smiled and accepted his help. At that time, I had no other options. Maybe that accident happened so that he could improve his situation a little.
