Chapter 3
3、
"I am the Chief of this hospital. What is going on here? If you cause a riot outside our operating rooms, I will call the police immediately."
Gia spoke up before anyone else could.
"You came just in time, Chief. Garrett Nolan abused his authority and intentionally murdered a patient on the table. Your hospital owes the family an explanation!"
Chief Morrison gave Gia a bewildered look.
"If I recall correctly, you are Dr. Keller's daughter and Dr. Nolan's wife."
Gia's expression stiffened for a fraction of a second.
"Yes, I am his wife, but I refuse to betray my conscience. If I stay silent, I will never sleep peacefully again."
Looking at her righteous performance, an ache tore through my chest.
Ever since we got married, I treated her like a treasure and gave in to her every whim.
My mother treated her like her own daughter.
And this was the gratitude we received in return.
Chief Morrison frowned in deep confusion.
"Dr. Nolan has not performed any surgeries over the past few days. Besides, his surgical record is completely spotless."
Gia shrieked back immediately.
"Did he not just finish operating on Mason minutes ago?"
I took a slow step forward and spoke up.
"I was not the surgeon today. I spent the entire day inside Chief Morrison's office."
Chief Morrison nodded firmly, backing up every word I said.
The bustling hallway instantly fell dead silent.
Gia stood frozen, clearly blindsided by this revelation.
A moment later, she seemed to find another angle and screamed at me.
"I get it now! You must have finished the procedure early and ran to the Chief's office so he would unknowingly provide a fake alibi for you!"
I had to admit, her imagination was truly impressive.
Suddenly, a young nurse pushed her way through the crowd, pointing an accusing finger at me.
"I can be a witness! It was Dr. Nolan who killed Mason!"
That pretty yet poisonous face was burned into my memory forever.
In my previous life, Bridget Evans wore this exact innocent face while feeding lies to the media and the police.
In this life, I had not set a single foot inside the operating room.
Where did she find the audacity to accuse me?
Suppressing the burning hatred in my chest, I stared at her coldly.
"Nurse Evans, I have never wronged you. Why are you framing me?"
A flicker of unease crossed Bridget's eyes, but she held her ground.
"Dr. Nolan, we have no personal grudge, but I cannot disgrace this white uniform."
"I saw everything clearly! You tampered with Mason's IV bag, which caused him to flatline on the table."
"You did it because you suspected Mason was having an affair with your wife, so you took revenge!"
With that, she pulled out her phone and displayed the exact same video that ruined me in my past life.
That's everything available right now.
