Chapter 2

2

The next time I saw Logan was a few days later at our graduation party.

I stood by the private room's door, watching him hold Chloe with pure adoration in his eyes.

His friends gathered around, praising them as a match made in heaven.

The smile on Logan's face grew deeper and more genuine.

After a while, Chloe got up to touch up her makeup in the restroom.

I quickly turned around, pretending to be a passerby in the hallway.

Inside the room, once Chloe left, a friend asked Logan hesitantly.

"Now that Chloe is back, what about Piper?"

"She loves you so much. Weren't you two planning on getting married?"

Logan curled his lip dismissively. "What love?"

"She was just a substitute. Haven't you noticed how much Piper looks like Chloe?"

"Since Chloe returned, it makes sense to change who I marry."

Hearing his words felt like being thrown into freezing water.

I shivered from the sudden chill.

I clenched my fists tightly, using the pain in my palms to keep myself from collapsing.

Amid the laughter of his friends, another guy chimed in.

"Isn't Piper coming tonight? Logan, you are a master player, but aren't you afraid she will make a scene when she sees Chloe?"

Logan laughed and cursed playfully at him.

Then, his tone turned serious. "Do not call Chloe by her full name. Show some respect and call her your sister-in-law!"

"Piper won't dare to cause trouble. She loves me too much."

"For three years, she prioritized me in everything. Ten days ago, she got an acceptance letter from Stanford, but she gave it up for my sake."

"She originally wanted me to go with her. I planned to accept so I could be closer to Chloe abroad, but Chloe returned and came back to me."

Logan's handsome face darkened slightly as he spoke.

Meanwhile, my heart had gone completely numb from the pain.

I suddenly remembered ten days ago when Logan furiously blamed me for making plans without consulting him.

Even though I explained that my parents arranged it, he still abandoned me on an empty street.

It turned out that was merely his excuse to break away from me.

He knew everything all along.

I was the only fool, thinking he was genuinely upset and groveling to him even while running a high fever.

I watched Logan surrounded by his friends.

The tenderness in his eyes when mentioning Chloe was something I had never received.

Logan took a drag of his cigarette.

His voice was low and firm. "This time, I will never let Chloe go."

"One of you call Piper. Tell her not to come because I am busy, and tell her to go home and make me some soup. She cares about me, so she will definitely do it."

"Also, do not mention Piper in front of Chloe. I do not want any misunderstandings."
