Chapter 2 Into The Shadows
Sienna threw her few belongings into a duffel bag, her movements jerky and fueled by frustration. Cassian stood by the door, his broad frame leaning casually against the doorframe as though he hadn't just barged into her life and upended everything. His storm-gray eyes tracked her every move, an unspoken command simmering in his gaze.
"Stop staring at me," she snapped, her tone sharper than she intended.
"Hard not to," he replied smoothly, his lips twitching into a faint smirk. "You're fascinating when you're angry."
Her hands tightened around the strap of the bag as she slung it over her shoulder. "This isn't anger, Cassian. This is resentment."
"Noted." He stepped forward, his towering presence swallowing the space between them. His hand reached out, brushing against her shoulder as he adjusted the strap of the bag. The touch was casual but deliberate, a reminder of his dominance. "Let's go."
Her jaw clenched, but she didn't argue. Fighting him felt like trying to move a mountain-exhausting and pointless. Instead, she let him guide her out the door, her mind racing as they stepped into the cool evening air.
Cassian's black SUV was parked at the curb, its polished exterior gleaming under the streetlights. He opened the passenger door for her, gesturing for her to get in. She hesitated, glancing up at him with a glare. "This doesn't mean I'm agreeing to anything."
His smirk deepened. "It means you're smart enough to get in the car."
She rolled her eyes but climbed in, the faint scent of leather and pine wrapping around her. The door closed with a solid thunk, and a moment later, Cassian slid into the driver's seat. The SUV roared to life, the rumble of the engine filling the silence between them as they pulled away from the curb.

[Flashback: Cassian's Past]
The drive was quiet, but Sienna couldn't shake the tension that hung in the air. Her gaze flicked to Cassian's profile, his sharp jawline illuminated by the faint glow of the dashboard lights. He looked calm-too calm, like a predator biding its time.
"Why do you care so much?" she asked suddenly, her voice cutting through the silence.
He didn't look at her, his hands steady on the wheel. "About what?"
"About me. About the baby. Why does it matter to you?"
For a moment, he said nothing, his expression unreadable. Then he exhaled, his voice low and even. "Because I know what it's like to lose something important."
The quiet confession caught her off guard, and she turned to face him fully. "What are you talking about?"
His grip on the steering wheel tightened slightly, his storm-gray eyes fixed on the road. "Kieran," he said, his tone clipped. "He was my Beta. My best friend. I trusted him, and he betrayed me."
Her stomach twisted at the mention of the rogue who had been terrorizing packs across the region. She'd heard the stories-how Kieran had been exiled from the Silver Shadow Pack after challenging Cassian's authority. But hearing it from him made it feel more personal.
"He tried to take everything from me," Cassian continued, his voice hardening. "The pack. My leadership. He wanted to tear it all down, and I had to make the call to banish him."
Sienna swallowed hard, the weight of his words settling over her. "And you think he's going to come after you now?"
"He already has," Cassian said darkly. "And now that he knows about you-about the baby-he'll see you as a weakness."
Her chest tightened, fear curling in her stomach. "I'm not a weakness."
His storm-gray eyes flicked to hers briefly, their intensity sending a shiver down her spine. "No," he said softly. "You're not. But he won't see it that way."

The Compound
The drive stretched on, the towering trees of the forest closing in around them as the road turned to gravel. The Silver Shadow Pack's territory was deep in the woods, far from the chaos of the outside world. When they finally reached the clearing, Sienna's breath caught at the sight before her.
The compound was massive, a network of rustic cabins and larger structures spread across the clearing. Wolves moved through the space with purpose-some in human form, others in their animal forms. The air hummed with a sense of unity, a rhythm that was almost tangible.
Cassian pulled the SUV to a stop in front of the largest cabin, its polished wooden exterior and wide porch marking it as the Alpha's home. He stepped out, circling around to open her door. His hand extended toward her, firm and expectant.
"Welcome to your new home," he said.
She ignored his hand, climbing out on her own. "This isn't my home."
His lips curved into a faint smirk as he stepped closer, his hand brushing against the small of her back. "Not yet," he murmured, guiding her toward the cabin.
---
Inside, the cabin was warm and inviting, with high ceilings and wide windows that let in streams of sunlight. A massive stone fireplace dominated the main room, its hearth stacked with fresh logs. The scent of cedar and something uniquely Cassian filled the air, wrapping around her in a way that made her wolf stir uneasily.
"This is where you'll stay," Cassian said, his tone calm but firm. "It's close to the main house and well-guarded."
She turned to glare at him. "I don't need to be guarded."
His storm-gray eyes darkened, his hand moving to cup her jaw. "You're carrying my heir," he said softly, his voice filled with quiet intensity. "That makes you my responsibility. And I don't take chances with what's mine."
Her heart raced at his words, but she refused to back down. "You don't own me."
His thumb brushed against her cheek, his touch maddeningly gentle. "Don't I?" he murmured, his lips curving into a slow, dangerous smile. "You'll see, little wolf. Soon enough."
