Chapter 3 Shadows of The Pack

The cabin was oppressively quiet, the kind of silence that gnawed at Sienna's nerves. She sat perched on the edge of the leather couch, her arms crossed tightly across her chest as her wolf stirred uneasily beneath her skin. The fire crackled softly in the hearth, the only sound breaking the tense stillness. It didn't help her relax. Nothing about this place, or the man standing across the room, felt remotely safe.

Cassian stood near the fireplace, his broad frame exuding an unshakable confidence. His storm-gray eyes locked onto her, cool and unreadable, yet the weight of his gaze felt like a physical touch. He leaned against the stone mantle, his posture deceptively relaxed, but there was no mistaking the controlled energy radiating from him-like a predator watching its prey.

Sienna's pulse quickened, her wolf bristling under his dominance. She hated the way he unsettled her, how the air between them seemed to vibrate with tension she couldn't escape. Every instinct screamed at her to run, to find a way out before the walls closed in completely. But where would she go? She was deep in pack territory now, far from the independence she had fought so hard to maintain.

Her thoughts spiraled, circling the same impossible notion: escape. Maybe she could slip out in the middle of the night, disappear into the woods before anyone noticed. Cassian might be fast, but she wasn't helpless. She'd survived on her own for years, evading packs and Alphas alike. She could do it again.

"Your thoughts are loud," Cassian said suddenly, his voice breaking the silence. It was low, smooth, and laced with a quiet authority that made her stomach twist.

She snapped her head up, glaring at him. "Stay out of my head."

His lips curved into a faint smirk, though his eyes didn't soften. "I don't have to be in your head to know you're plotting something. You've got that look."

"What look?" she shot back, her tone sharper than she intended.

"The one that says you're ready to bolt," he replied, his voice calm but firm. He pushed away from the mantle, closing the distance between them with slow, deliberate steps. "But let me save you the trouble, little wolf. There's nowhere you can go that I won't find you."

Her chest tightened as he stopped in front of her, his towering frame casting a shadow over her. "You can't keep me here," she said, though her voice wavered slightly under the weight of his presence.

Cassian tilted his head, his storm-gray eyes narrowing slightly. "Can't I?"

The Alpha's Touch

Before she could respond, he reached out, his hand cupping her jaw with a gentleness that caught her off guard. His thumb brushed lightly against her cheek, the warmth of his touch sending an unwelcome shiver down her spine. Her wolf stirred beneath her skin, torn between the urge to submit and the fire of defiance burning in her chest.

"You're trembling," he murmured, his voice dropping into a low rumble. "What are you afraid of?"

Her breath hitched, and she forced herself to meet his gaze, her defiance flaring. "I'm not afraid of you."

His smirk deepened, slow and predatory. "Liar," he said softly, his thumb tracing a deliberate line along her jaw. "I can feel your pulse racing. Your wolf knows the truth, even if you don't."

Sienna stiffened, her body betraying her with a warmth that bloomed low in her belly. She hated the way her chest tightened under his touch, hated the way her thighs pressed together in a futile attempt to tamp down the need building within her.

Cassian's hand slid lower, brushing against her throat in a touch that was maddeningly light. He stepped closer, his other hand moving to her waist. His fingers spread over her hip with possessive ease, pulling her closer until their bodies nearly touched.

"Stop it," she whispered, her voice trembling.

"Stop what?" he murmured, his voice dropping to a velvety growl. "Reminding you who I am? Or reminding you what you are?"

Her chest heaved as his words settled over her, heavy and unshakable. "You don't own me," she said, though the words felt hollow in the face of his dominance.

"Don't I?" he asked, his lips curving into a faint smile. His storm-gray eyes darkened as he leaned closer, his breath brushing against her ear. "You've been mine since the moment I touched you, Sienna. And now, so is that child."

Her stomach churned at the mention of the baby, and she tried to pull away, but his grip on her waist tightened, holding her in place. His thumb brushed against her cheek again, the touch maddeningly soft despite the raw power radiating from him.

"And you feel it," he murmured, his voice low and rough. "Your body knows it. I can smell how wet you are for me."

Her cheeks burned, heat flooding her face as her breath caught in her throat. "You're imagining things," she spat, though her voice wavered with the effort to sound convincing.

He chuckled softly, the sound dark and intimate. "Am I? Your scent doesn't lie, little wolf."

Her wolf growled faintly beneath the surface, torn between fury and undeniable need. Her body betrayed her at every turn-the press of her thighs, the rapid thud of her pulse, the heat that pooled low in her belly and refused to dissipate.

"You don't have to fight me," Cassian said, his voice softening slightly, though it lost none of its authority. "I'll protect you. Both of you."

Her breath caught, her mind racing as his words hung between them. She wanted to believe him, wanted to let herself lean into the safety he promised. But trust was dangerous. She'd learned that the hard way.

"Let me go," she said finally, though her voice lacked the strength she'd hoped for.

His storm-gray eyes softened slightly, but he didn't release her. Instead, he leaned in, his forehead brushing against hers in a gesture that felt both intimate and grounding. "I'll let you go," he murmured, his voice a low rumble that sent shivers through her. "But only because I know you'll come back."

Before she could respond, the door swung open, breaking the moment like a crack of thunder.

The Pack Arrives

A tall man with dark hair tied back and piercing blue eyes stepped into the cabin, his grin easy and unbothered. The tension in the room didn't seem to faze him as he looked between Sienna and Cassian with thinly veiled amusement.

"Alpha," the man said, nodding toward Cassian before turning his attention to Sienna. His grin widened as his gaze swept over her. "And you must be the infamous Sienna."

Cassian straightened, his hand reluctantly dropping from her waist as he turned to the newcomer. "Ryker," he said evenly. "You're supposed to be handling the patrols."

Ryker shrugged, his grin widening. "Handled. But I figured I'd come see what all the fuss was about."

Sienna bristled at the casual tone, her eyes narrowing. "Fuss?"

Ryker chuckled, clearly unbothered by her hostility. "Word travels fast around here, especially when it involves our Alpha bringing home a-"

"That's enough," Cassian growled, his voice sharp enough to cut. The room seemed to drop several degrees, his dominance filling the space like a storm cloud.

Ryker raised his hands in mock surrender, though his grin remained. "Alright, alright. Just trying to make her feel welcome."

Cassian shot him a warning look before turning back to Sienna. "This is Ryker, my Beta," he said, his tone calmer now. "He'll make sure you're safe when I'm not here."

Sienna crossed her arms, her wolf stirring uneasily beneath her skin. "I don't need a babysitter."

Ryker laughed again, his blue eyes glinting with amusement. "I like her already."

Cassian's glare silenced him, and Ryker cleared his throat before stepping back toward the door. "I'll leave you two to... whatever this is."

As the door closed behind Ryker, Sienna turned to Cassian, her frustration boiling over. "Do all of your pack members talk to you like that?"

"Only the ones who've earned it," Cassian replied, his smirk returning. "Ryker's been with me since the beginning. He's earned the right to be annoying."

That's everything available right now.
