Chapter 1
1
My wife, Rain, wanted me to get a vasectomy and spend our lives child-free. Ten years later, she brought home twins, a boy and a girl, expecting me to nurture them into successful adults.
I agreed, focusing on raising those twins.
Then, on their eighteenth birthday, they both got into Harvard.
At their graduation party, Rain handed me a property transfer document, wanting me to put everything in the twins' names.
I nodded, ready to sign.
But my mom pulled me aside, her face etched with worry. "Danny, those kids are of questionable origin. Don't give them your entire fortune."
I said calmly, "Mom, I trust my judgment."
Tears streamed down her face as she begged me not to be a sucker.
Dad, unable to reason with me, slapped me across the face, calling me a spendthrift, and stormed out.
I signed the document.
Rain beamed, hooking her arm around a man I vaguely recognized.
He tossed me a divorce agreement. "Danny, thanks for taking care of Rain and the kids for so long. It's time to give them back to me, so our family can be whole again."
I just smirked. "Sure thing!"
…
Eighteen years ago, Rain, who swore we'd be child-free forever, suddenly brought home twins, a boy and a girl.
They were a little dark-skinned, but they giggled at everyone, adorable.
Rain said she adopted them from a foster home and wanted me to help raise them.
So, I became a stay-at-home dad, changing diapers and doing everything to raise them.
Eighteen years later, they got into Harvard.
At their graduation party, I was about to transfer all my assets to my kids, and retire in the background.
This caused quite a stir.
My parents and friends all urged me to keep something for myself.
But I ignored them and gave everything to the kids.
The moment Rain got that transfer document, she couldn't contain her excitement, and laughed as she walked towards the crowd.
She put her arm around a man's arm and walked towards me.
They gave me a divorce agreement and wanted to kick me out with nothing.
My head spun, I looked at her in disbelief.
I felt stabbed in the back by the person closest to me.
You see, I even got a vasectomy to keep my promise.
Over the years, I transformed into the ultimate doting husband and stay-at-home dad, a model husband in the city.
Now, staring at that divorce agreement, I saw red and screamed at them.
"Rain, so you were hooking up with Andy all along!"
Andy worked at my company, great at kissing up, and now he was the director.
Andy chuckled smoothly. "Danny, don't get mad. If you love Rain, you should sacrifice for her happiness."
Rain said impatiently, "Sign it already! What's with all the stalling?"
Rain and I were college sweethearts. She was from the country, her family was poor, couldn't afford tuition, and she'd hide in her dorm eating plain bread.
She looked malnourished, hair dull, face pale, and her period was irregular.
One day, she collapsed on the field, and I carried her to the school doctor, learning about her situation.
I generously covered her living expenses, and things progressed naturally.
Andy was her high school sweetheart. They had broken up long ago, but somehow, they hooked up again.
