Chapter 2
02
Silas took Melody into the room I used to share with him.
She was going to sleep in my bed and use my blankets.
The heavy scent of her rose perfume filled the master bedroom.
It made me want to throw up.
Silas frowned at me.
"What? Are you sick? Go rest then."
Melody spoke up, looking right at me. "Silas, I'm hungry. I want some lobster bisque."
Silas was about to call his assistant to order some.
But Melody smirked.
"Silas, I only want the lobster bisque Clara makes herself."
She put on a pathetic look, but her eyes were full of malice.
"Clara, could you please make it? The baby and I really want it!"
I refused without blinking. When Melody's eyes welled up, Silas looked at me with anger.
"Clara, it's just a meal. It's not a big deal!"
I snapped back. "Why should I cook for a homewrecker and her bastard?"
Melody's tears hit the duvet.
"Clara, how can you say that? Our baby isn't a bastard. She's just a little angel who came into the world by accident!"
"It's my fault. I shouldn't have been with Silas and ruined your marriage. I'll leave right now!"
She sobbed and tried to get up.
Silas pushed her back down immediately.
He glared at me. "Clara, apologize!"
I stared back stubbornly, refusing to let my tears fall.
Melody tried to get up again, but Silas held her arm.
He let out a cold laugh and looked at me with a blank face.
"Clara, have I spoiled you so much that you think you can do whatever you want?"
The next second, a hard slap fueled by his rage landed on my face.
The corner of my mouth bled, and my cheek burned like fire.
I looked at him in disbelief.
Melody chimed in. "Silas, don't let me come between you. If Clara doesn't want to cook, it's fine. I don't have much of an appetite anyway!"
Silas's voice was final.
"I said she's making it, so she's making it! Melody, you rest!"
He grabbed my arm and dragged me. I stumbled, and my leg slammed into the corner of a wall.
A dark bruise formed on my pale skin. It looked horrifying.
Silas didn't even look back.
He threw me into the kitchen.
Then, he locked the door from the outside.
"Don't come out until it's finished! I have all day to wait!"
Through the door, I could hear Melody sitting on his lap. Silas was tenderly feeding her blueberries that had been flown in from overseas.
I had specially ordered those for him.
All my effort and love looked ridiculous now.
I wiped my tears and pushed through the pain to make the bisque.
Distracted by my thoughts, I accidentally knocked over a pot of boiling water.
The scalding water poured right over my leg.
Silas almost rushed over, but Melody grabbed him.
"I know Clara didn't want to cook for me, but she shouldn't hurt herself over it!"
Silas sat back down instantly and scoffed.
"Clara is just playing tricks. If she wants to hurt herself, let her. She's too dramatic!"
I gritted my teeth in pain and poured cold water over my leg repeatedly.
The burning sensation felt like thousands of ants biting into the wound.
I couldn't stop my tears from falling.
Silas just watched coldly.
It was like the woman being injured wasn't his wife at all.
The Silas who used to panic over a tiny paper cut on my finger was gone.
I didn't recognize him anymore.
