I limped out of the kitchen with the lobster bisque.

Melody looked at me with a smug grin.

"Thanks, Clara. Even with an injury, you still cooked for me and the baby. Silas, come eat with us!"

I ignored their public display of affection and went to the guest room.

I searched everywhere for the first aid kit.

A moment later, Silas kicked the door open.

He was holding the medical box.

He frowned when he saw the blisters and bruises on my leg.

"Sit down. I'll fix your wounds."

I tried to push him away, but he pinned me to the bed.

He applied the ointment carefully, and for a second, he looked truly worried.

But he was the one who caused this. Why act like this now?

He gave me hope just to crush it again.

I breathed heavily, trying to hold back my tears.

But the pain was too much. The tears kept falling.

Silas finished and used a tissue to wipe my face.

"Why are you crying like a baby? You're a grown woman, and you're still so afraid of pain!"

His scent surrounded me, overwhelming my senses.

"Clara, stop being difficult. Let's just live peacefully from now on, okay?"

I couldn't push him away.

But what did I even do? I just didn't want to smile while serving his mistress.

His scent was so familiar.

For a second, it felt like we were back in the past.

Back to the boy who loved me more than life itself.

The boy who rescued me from my abusive father.

You loved me so much once. Why are you okay with hurting me like this now?
