Chapter 2
1
"I knew Big Sister would like the educated one. I'll take Lukas. That boy is wild when he's racing―definitely my vibe!"
"Since you've both picked, Finn belongs to the youngest. Look at him acting all sophisticated. Tearing that mask off is going to be so much fun."
I'm actually a three-headed snake demon. To fit into human society, I changed my appearance to become a law-abiding citizen.
The other two consciousnesses didn't have enough power to manifest, so they lived inside me.
Silas and his brothers were running a con on me?
What a coincidence. I had two sisters living in my head.
The triplets' little game of musical chairs was nothing compared to a three-headed snake.
When I took this form, I promised the Supernatural Bureau I wouldn't start trouble. But I never said I'd take it lying down.
The Bureau was afraid I'd tear their headquarters apart, so they made a rule.
As long as I collected three pieces of evidence of human malice, I could deal with them directly.
My second sister was humming in my head.
"Big Sis, when do we eat? I haven't tasted fresh meat in centuries. I'm starving!"
I stared at the four people in the restaurant who were completely oblivious to my presence. I curled my lips into a cold smile.
"Don't rush. We report to the Bureau first. Once the audit is approved, we can feast legally."
After all, I'm a very law-abiding demon.
As soon as I stepped into the room, a sugary-sweet voice made my skin crawl.
"Oh, Vera is here? I was just helping Silas pick out some dishes. Don't get the wrong idea, okay?"
Serena was clinging to Silas's arm, acting all coy. Silas held her and shot me a look that was as cold as ice.
"You're so late. Do you really think you have the right to be jealous of Serena?"
I frowned, trying to remember who Serena was. What did I ever do to her?
My second sister suddenly spoke up.
"Sis, her cousin was your 37th ex-boyfriend. You dumped him, and I guess Serena took it personally."
Light dawned on me. My ex-boyfriends could line up from here to the Hollywood Sign. Who the hell was her cousin?
"Serena, your cousin took the limited-edition watch I gave him and immediately gave it to his secretary," I said with a smirk.
I didn't hold back at all.
"Stop sticking to Silas like a piece of cheap gum. If you're unhappy, go find your cousin. Now, get lost."
Demons value loyalty. When I date, I give my heart and my money. I've never owed anyone anything. These people didn't deserve to talk about revenge.
Silas looked a bit guilty for a second, probably thinking I'd found out the truth. He quickly tried to play peacemaker.
"Vera, what are you saying? Can't you be more open-minded? Serena is like a sister to me. Who are you showing that attitude to?"
"Serena, you head home first. I'll come find you tonight."
I had to admit, Silas's face was very deceptive. It made people want to drown in his gentleness.
Sure enough, Serena stomped her foot, glared at me, and sashayed away.
I stared at Silas's lying face and suddenly dropped a bomb.
"Silas, I'm pregnant."
