Chapter 3

3.

I looked at Keegan and gave him a small, tired smile.

"Since she loves you so much, you should hurry up and convince her to divorce me."

"Then you can stop being the secret on the side and finally be the man of the house."

"Isn't that better than being a homewrecker in the shadows?"

Keegan's face turned bright red with rage.

"You only got to her first, Arden! If I had met her back then, I'd be the one she married."

"Besides, timing doesn't matter. The one who isn't loved is the real intruder!"

"A sick, ugly loser like you is nothing but a burden to Sia!"

He was getting worked up. His coworkers tried to pull him away, telling him to stop.

But he wouldn't budge. He tried to lung at me to throw a punch.

In his rush, he tripped over a stray power cord and crashed hard onto the floor.

Right then, the elevator dings. Sia stepped out.

She saw Keegan on the floor and rushed over to pull him up.

Her voice was thick with a protective fury I hadn't heard in years.

"What happened? Who pushed Keegan?"

The air in the lobby froze. Nobody dared to breathe.

It was the first time I had seen Sia protect someone so fiercely.

I guess that's what love looks like.

You're terrified of them getting hurt. Their pain becomes your pain.

I let out a dry laugh and took a step forward.

"I did it. But he deserved it. A fall is the least of what he should get."

Keegan, who was just fuming, suddenly put on a pathetic, heartbroken face.

"It's my fault! I shouldn't have come between you and Sia."

"But what did I do wrong? I just fell in love. Does that mean I deserve to be hated and called names?"

He looked at Sia with watery eyes.

"Sia, is it really a crime for two people to love each other?"

He said those delusional words with such conviction.

Sia didn't seem to find anything wrong with it. She pulled him into a hug.

"Baby, you did nothing wrong. Neither of us did."
