Chapter 2

2、

Elara froze for a second, then pointed a finger at my nose and started screaming.

"Is there someone else, Silas? Is that why you're doing this? You report me and then jump at the chance to leave?"

"Fine! We'll divorce. But since you're the one acting out, you're leaving with absolutely nothing!"

I heard her loud and clear. She had been planning to kick me to the curb for a long time.

Strangely, I didn't feel any pain. The love was already dead.

I nodded, my voice eerily calm.

"Fine. I'll send the divorce papers to your office later."

I grabbed my box of things and walked out without looking back.

I didn't go back to our shared house. Instead, I went to the small apartment I bought before we got married.

That night, Jace sent me another photo.

It was taken inside that Maybach. Elara's blouse was half-unbuttoned, her face flushed as she leaned into Jace's chest.

Jace's neck was covered in dark hickeys.

I let out a short laugh and posted the photo on my social media feed.

I captioned it: "Happy Divorce! Cheers to a new beginning!"

Then, I turned off my phone and went to sleep.

The next morning, I was woken up by a violent pounding on my door.

When I opened it, I was greeted by a stinging slap to the face.

My head cleared instantly from the pain.

I glared at the woman standing there, my voice cold as ice.

"Elara, what the hell is wrong with you this early in the morning?"

She looked even angrier than I was.

"You're a disgusting, pathetic coward! Why did you post that photo on social media?"

"Because of your jealousy, Jace almost tried to end his life last night!"

"You are going to post a retraction right now and say the photo was photoshopped! Then, you're going to apologize to him!"

I looked at her twisted, angry face and sneered.

"Jace sent that photo to me himself. I thought he wanted me to help announce your little romance."

"Besides, didn't you say you two were strictly professional? Why are you so panicked, Counselor?"

Elara's rage boiled over. She raised her hand to strike me again.

This time, I was ready. I grabbed her wrist and threw it aside with force.

"Elara, three strikes and you're out. That was the third time."

She glared at me with pure venom.

"Do you have no limit to how low you'll stoop? You're sickening."

"Jace and I had too much to drink while entertaining a client. He only sent that to you so you wouldn't worry about me."

"But you used it to destroy our reputations. You tried to drive him to the edge. Why don't you just disappear?"

I'm the sickening one?

I was done listening to her lies. I slammed the door in her face.

I blocked every single one of her contact methods immediately.

Then, I booked a one-way ticket to Miami.

After five years of working myself to death for her, I deserved a real vacation.

As I was heading out the door, an unknown number called.

I answered, and Elara's voice started screaming again. I hung up and blocked that one too.

But when I reached the airport to check in, two police officers blocked my path.

"Silas Montgomery? You're under investigation for the theft of trade secrets. Come with us."

Before I could say a word, cold handcuffs clicked around my wrists.
