Chapter 1

My boyfriend of eight years finally proposed to me, and our wedding was set for a week later.

But while I was happily preparing for the wedding, I accidentally overheard a conversation between him and his friends.

"Trevor is really something. As soon as he proposed, his first love Sierra couldn't sit still anymore."

"But now that Sierra is back, what are you going to do with your little girlfriend?"

He was silent for a while before replying lightly.

"It's fine. I'm not really going to sign a marriage license with Quinn anyway. At worst, I'll just throw a wedding and put on a show for her."

At the pre-wedding party the next day, he held me with a doting look on his face as we greeted the guests.

But when Sierra ran out the door with red eyes, he immediately let go of me and chased after her nervously.

I quietly followed them and watched them hug tightly and kiss passionately in the dark.

With my heart dead as ashes, I turned around and made a phone call.

"Do you want to get married? I'm missing a groom."

The other end of the line was silent for a moment. "Are you serious?"

"Yes."

He paused for a few seconds, seeming to think about something. "Okay."

"You agreed without even thinking about it?"

He chuckled softly and asked in a low voice, "Will you regret it?"

"I won't regret it."

"That's good then. I'll fly back to the States in three days after I sign this contract."

At that moment, Trevor Garrison came back from the garden outside. His tone revealed a hint of curiosity. "What were you saying on the phone about not regretting?"

I smiled faintly. "Just a friend calling to chat about wedding preparations. Many people say they feel a little regret before getting married."

I paused for a moment and looked straight into his eyes. "What about you? Will you regret marrying me?"

He froze slightly and his eyes darted away as he deliberately changed the subject. "How are the wedding preparations going?"

A wave of bitterness welled up in my heart.

Actually, ever since the day he proposed to me, I had tried countless times to discuss the details with him.

Every time I happily brought up the wedding details, he would always smile gently. "You decide. You are the main character that day."

I always thought it was because he truly loved me and wanted me to do whatever I wanted.

It wasn't until that night when I accidentally overheard his conversation with his friends that I suddenly woke up.

It turned out that in his heart, this wedding was just a show he was putting on with me.

At this time, he suddenly leaned close to me, about to kiss my forehead like usual.

The moment he got close, a familiar scent of freesia hit my nose. It was the perfume Sierra Yates always used.

The scene of him and Sierra kissing in the night flashed through my mind, and I subconsciously dodged his kiss.

He froze for a moment and asked, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing, just a little tired," I answered in a low voice.

He gently comforted me. "You've been working too hard. Don't worry too much anymore. Let me take you home to rest."

I looked at him and asked tentatively, "Aren't you going home?"

He froze, then laughed. "Oh... some customs say that men and women should live separately before getting married for good luck. You also want us to have a smooth future, right?"

Listening to his words, I sneered in my heart.

A smooth future?

He never planned to have any future with me at all.

In the end, all the talk about the future, marriage, and promises were probably just lies to pacify me and coax me into cooperating.

And the so-called custom was just a hidden warning from Sierra to me.

She was showing me that as long as she was around, Trevor would always be hers.

I stopped talking, and he looked at me, seeming a bit nervous and awkward. "If you think it's not appropriate, then I..."

I interrupted him. "No, go ahead. I also hope... we can last a long time."
