Chapter 1

On our anniversary, I hid inside a giant teddy bear.

I planned to give my girlfriend a surprise after months of long-distance dating.

Through the bear's plastic eyes, I saw her assistant carry her to the sofa in his arms.

"Macy, do you really think Silas will believe he needs to give up a kidney for you?"

"Don't worry. Even if I asked him to cut out his heart for me, he wouldn't say no."

That was when I realized the truth.

Macy only chose to be with me to find a matching donor for her secret lover.

"Miles, as soon as the match is confirmed, I'll arrange the surgery for you."

"I'm just sorry you have to go through this..."

Macy's voice trailed off, a flash of guilt crossing her face.

"I'm just happy to have a donor. Why should I feel bad?"

Miles smirked and tilted her chin up, asking softly.

I lay cramped in the corner, holding my breath so hard it hurt.

Watching them together felt like my world was collapsing into an abyss.

"I wish I could find someone better, but Silas is the only one who matches."

"Honestly, the thought of his country-boy blood inside you makes me feel sick."

My heart skipped a beat when I heard that.

I couldn't believe my ears.

This was the same woman who was always gentle and sweet to me.

I never thought she could say something so cruel.

Since Macy was transferred to another city for work, we had been long-distance for six months.

Last night, I lied and said I had to work late and couldn't visit for her birthday.

In reality, I bought a secret flight and flew across the country.

I sneaked into her apartment and hid inside the plush bear.

It was supposed to be a romantic surprise.

Instead, it turned into my worst nightmare.

Through the bear's eyes, I watched them start to undress.

They were seconds away from going all the way.

Macy was breathless from his kisses, but her eyes suddenly drifted toward the corner.

She pushed Miles away, looking suspicious.

"When did I get that giant bear? I don't remember buying that."

Macy stood up from the sofa.

She walked straight toward me.

The hand that was just touching Miles's chest was now reaching for the bear's head.
