Chapter 2

My heart hammered against my ribs, and my lips trembled.

Macy was about to pull off the teddy bear's head.

Suddenly, her phone buzzed loudly.

"Hello, is this Ms. Miller? I have a package for you at the door. Please sign for it."

Macy remembered what I told her on the phone last night.

Since I couldn't be there, I sent a gift to arrive on her birthday.

"Silas is so annoying. He just gave my door code to a random delivery guy."

"And he sent this ugly bear too."

After taking the package, she glanced back at me with pure disgust.

It was written all over her face.

"Macy, Silas is actually good to you. Look at this scarf, he probably knitted it himself."

"It even has your initials on it."

Miles hugged her from behind, kissing her neck.

"Ugh, this trash is too dirty even to use as a floor rag."

"Let's throw it out with that stupid bear later. It's bad luck just looking at it!"

Macy tossed the scarf onto the floor.

She picked up a glass of expensive red wine from the table.

The dark red liquid splashed all over the scarf, staining it instantly.

"Oops, I accidentally ruined it. Now I really have to throw it away."

"You're so bad, Macy. This wine costs thousands. It's worth way more than his cheap gift."

The two of them laughed and walked out the door hand in hand.

Macy had a big party planned for tonight.

It was a celebration for her, but mostly for Miles finding a donor.

Once they were gone, I crawled out of the bear, drenched in sweat.

I was still clutching the engagement ring I had bought for her.

Finally, I understood why a rich heiress like Macy would fall for a guy like me.

She didn't care about my heart.

She was just farming me for my organs.
