Chapter 1
1
My friend, Sarah, acted like we were still in high school, even though we were in college now.
When it was time to sign up for the TOEFL, Sarah snatched my phone, claiming I shouldn't be on it during class.
Of course, that made me miss the registration deadline.
And guess what? She'd already secretly registered herself.
I wanted to enter a business competition, but Sarah insisted college was all about academics.
She canceled my registration and then went on to win the competition herself.
After graduation, I struggled to find a job, while Sarah landed an offer from my dream company, Goldman Sachs.
Desperate, I asked her for a loan, but she self-righteously accused me of being a leech.
Then, I died in a freak accident at a small factory.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back at the beginning of freshman year.
......
I pushed open the dorm room door, and a familiar voice chirped, "Ashley! What a coincidence, we're in the same college, same dorm!"
My high school classmate, Sarah Miller, pulled me inside, introducing me to everyone. "This is Ashley, my best friend."
She acted like we were super close.
I snapped out of it, pulled my arm away, and plastered a smile on my face while greeting my new roommates.
Sarah's expression immediately soured, but I ignored her.
Last time, she'd claimed we were BFFs from day one, clinging to me and making it difficult for me to make other friends.
This time, after unpacking, I helped my roommates unpack, quickly bonding with them.
They were sweet and shared their snacks with me.
Seeing this, Sarah, who'd been ignored all morning, suddenly jumped up and returned all the snacks they'd given me.
"Ashley, we can't eat snacks in college. Remember what happened to Jessica, our class president in high school?"
Back in high school, Jessica had low blood sugar and ate a candy bar. Sarah reported her to the teacher, getting her a demerit, all in the name of "maintaining class order."
Her reasoning? "As class president, it's my duty to ensure everyone follows the rules. If I let it slide, everyone will do it, and our class will have no discipline."
She then proceeded to monitor Jessica constantly, which ultimately led to Jessica collapsing from low blood sugar and being rushed to the hospital.
She also used this incident to force everyone to participate in morning exercises, claiming we needed to be strong like Jessica.
Now, she was using the same logic.
