Chapter 1

Chapter 1

On the second day after our wedding, Holden Drake posted an affectionate photo with his childhood sweetheart on social media:

【Childhood love that lasts a lifetime. Aren't you jealous?】

I calmly gave the post a like. Within seconds, the photo was deleted.

Holden called me immediately. With his weeping sweetheart in his arms and his entire family watching, he scolded me for being petty, unreasonable, and unable to take a joke.

After hanging up, Holden changed his profile picture and banner to matching couple photos with her.

In the past, I would have rushed over, crying and begging for an explanation.

This time, I was simply exhausted.

After smashing the last glass in the penthouse, I stared at the mess on the marble floor.

Surprisingly, I felt an unprecedented sense of relief.

My phone buzzed continuously on the counter. I did not even need to look to know Holden was sending another barrage of angry texts.

It was so damn noisy.

I threw my brand-new iPhone directly into the shattered glass. The screen flickered twice before shattering completely.

In the past, losing such an expensive phone would have broken my heart.

Now, I did not give a single damn.

As the wife of Drake Enterprises' CEO, I used to count every penny just to buy everyday necessities.

How ridiculous.

Holden always believed that deep down, I was just low-class trailer trash who did not deserve nice things.

Chloe Vance had sneered in my face more than once. "Did you really think wearing couture dresses would turn you into the true heiress of the Vance family?"

"You were raised in a dirty foster home in the countryside for over a decade. My elegance is something you could never match in a lifetime."

I walked numbly across the sharp glass shards. A sudden sting shot through my foot before I realized I was barefoot.

Blood smeared across the floor with every step. Yet, my very first thought was pathetically predictable.

If Holden came home, he would only scream at me for creating drama and tell me I would be better off dead.

The electronic lock beeped at the front door. Holden flicked on the lights and froze at the destruction before him.

As expected, his brows furrowed in immediate disgust.

"Elena, what kind of ridiculous stunt are you pulling now?"

"It's only the second day of our marriage. Can't you just behave yourself?"

Yes, he knew we had only been married for two days. Yet, he could not wait to spend those two days with his precious childhood sweetheart.

None of it mattered anymore. I did not scream or cry demanding why he treated me like this.

I kept my voice completely flat. "I'm sorry. The power went out earlier and I accidentally knocked things over. I'll clean it up right away."

I knelt down and began picking up the sharp pieces of glass.

Holden's scowl softened slightly. When he noticed the bloody footprints on the floor, a hint of guilt flashed across his face. "Leave it. I'll call the maid to clean it later."

Seeing that I did not stop, he offered a defensive excuse. "Chloe just had her surgery and her emotions are unstable. Don't take it to heart. As her younger sister, you should be more understanding."

Understanding? I processed the word in a daze, looking up at him.

Thinking I was backing down, Holden stepped closer and took my hand.

"Elena, I know you suffered a lot growing up in poverty. But without Chloe, you would still be stuck in that run-down countryside town forever. You should be grateful to her instead of constantly acting jealous."

I burst out laughing.

"I should be grateful to Chloe Vance?" I stared at him with mockery in my eyes.

"Grateful for what? Grateful that she stole my identity for over twenty years, or grateful that she drained my bone marrow?"
