Chapter 3
Chapter 3
I did not know where Holden disappeared to that night. All I knew was that I had the best sleep in months.
Even after our wedding, Holden refused to share a bed with someone he considered low-class.
The next morning, I skipped breakfast and went straight to the hospital.
Today was my scheduled follow-up exam as well.
Right after checking in, I spotted two familiar figures around the hallway corner.
"Holden, thank you so much for coming with me today~"
That sickeningly sweet voice belonged to none other than Chloe.
They noticed me immediately. Chloe shot me a wary glance before quickly linking her arm through Holden's.
Their fingers intertwined tightly. I did not even spare them a second glance, feeling only disgust churning in my stomach.
"Elena, why are you here? Holden is enough to take care of me. You didn't need to trouble yourself."
"I'm just passing through. I won't disturb you two, don't worry."
I walked past them toward the waiting area with my chart in hand.
Holden suddenly stepped in front of me to block my path. "You really couldn't trust me, could you? You had to stalk me all the way to the hospital?"
He grabbed my wrist tightly, completely ignoring Chloe's burning, jealous glare.
I ripped my arm out of his grip. Instantly, Chloe clutched her chest and began gasping for air, as if she were under attack.
"Holden, my whole body hurts… I think I'm having a rejection reaction…"
Holden pulled Chloe into his arms without hesitation, his eyes filled with overwhelming worry.
Seeing me stand there indifferently, Holden snapped at me in fury.
"Your sister is in pain! Why are you standing there like an idiot? Go get a doctor!"
Chloe gasped with theatrical tears streaming down her face, her voice dripping with venom. "Holden, don't be harsh on her. Elena grew up in the middle of nowhere. It's normal that she doesn't know how to find a doctor in a high-end private hospital like this."
Her ridiculous drama almost made me laugh out loud.
"You have two working legs. Why don't you get the doctor yourself?" I looked at Holden with cold amusement. "I'm just low-class trash. I'm not worthy of speaking to doctors in your prestigious private clinic."
"Elena, can you drop your pathetic, uncultured attitude for once? If anything happens to Chloe, can you take responsibility?"
Uncultured. Low-class. Trailer trash.
Did they really think they were superior beings?
How weak had I been in the past to let them walk all over me like that?
"Are you done barking? If you are, I have an appointment to get to."
Holden finally noticed the appointment slip in my hand.
His expression shifted from anger to awkward embarrassment. "You have a check-up today too? Why didn't you tell me?"
We had both undergone the bone marrow transplant in this exact hospital. Afterward, I had been abandoned in a cold room, while Chloe was showered with love and attention during her recovery.
Our follow-up appointments were on the exact same day every month―the third. Yet Holden only ever remembered hers.
Chloe's face darkened. She could not stand Holden paying even a shred of attention to me.
After a dramatic shudder, she pretended to faint into his arms.
That's everything available right now.
