Chapter 2

Sierra walked in behind me, her tone incredibly casual.
"The admin department needs this desk for a new employee. We were just being nice by helping you pack."
"I didn't know a sales girl liked reading books on finance and taxes. How studious of you."
"But you have so much junk. It's only natural that a few things fell on the floor."
Someone else added with a smirk.
"You're leaving anyway. Why are you making such a big deal out of it?"
My expression stayed cold.
"Was it also an admin requirement to read through my private chat logs?"
Sierra blinked, looking completely unbothered.
"The computer is company property. Besides, company policy says all departing employees must undergo a work review."
"I was just worried you might… accidentally take some sensitive client data with you."
As I checked my computer, I realized she had deleted half of my contacts!
Clients, business partners, and even some of my old college friends who worked in the industry were gone.
I stared at the empty list, my fingers trembling with rage.
"Director York is truly thorough. You even managed to clean out my college classmates."
Sierra crossed her arms and arched an eyebrow in mock surprise.
"Oops. I must have deleted them by mistake. But you're leaving the industry anyway, right? Those contacts are useless to you now."
I stopped talking. I pulled out my phone and started taking photos and videos of the trashed desk, the ruined blazer, and the login history on the screen.
"What are you doing?"
Sierra stepped forward, trying to grab my phone.
I stepped aside and glared at her.
"I'm calling the police. You violated my privacy and my personal property. A few days in a holding cell should suit you well."
"The police? Phoebe, have you lost your mind!"
Sierra's face turned pale. She lunged for the phone again.
At that moment, our boss, Justin Thorne, rushed over. He was frowning deeply.
"What is all this noise? Phoebe, you're already on your way out. Don't make this ugly!"
I took a deep breath and explained exactly what had happened.
Justin waved his hand dismissively.
"Illegal this, privacy that! Sierra was just looking out for the company's interests. Why are you being so dramatic?"
He stepped closer and lowered his voice in a threatening manner.
"Phoebe, I suggest you take the win and leave quietly. With my connections in this city, I can make sure you never work in this industry again with a single phone call."
Seeing the boss on her side, Sierra put on a fake, sympathetic smile.
"Mr. Thorne, don't be angry. Phoebe is just upset because she was fired so suddenly. It's hard on her."
She turned to me with a look of pure pity.
"Phoebe, for the sake of the time we worked together, I'll help you out."
"Our cleaning lady just quit yesterday to go back to her hometown. If you really can't find a job, I can let you stay here as a janitor."
"The pay isn't great, but it's better than starving, right?"
Chloe and the others burst into laughter, throwing out more insults.
"Director York is such a saint!"
"Exactly! There's no shame in honest labor, Phoebe!"
"Hurry up and thank Director York!"
I looked at Sierra's malicious face and suddenly, I started to laugh.
