Chapter 3

I scanned the room, looking at the colleagues before my eyes landed on Sierra.
"The three-hundred-million-dollar deal with Mr. Logan was supposed to give me a three-million-dollar commission. But Justin decided to take it all away with one sentence."
I pointed a finger at the people who were starting to look hesitant.
"If Justin Thorne can steal my three million today, who's to say he won't steal your bonus tomorrow? Or yours? Or yours?"
The office went dead silent. You could hear a pin drop.
Some people looked away, while others stole glances at Justin, whose face was turning a nasty shade of purple.
I smiled brightly, my voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Are you all really willing to keep working for a man who stabs his best employees in the back?"
"Phoebe Quinn! Stop trying to turn my staff against me!"
Justin slammed his hand on a desk and roared, his face turning bright red.
"Mr. Logan is my brother! That deal landed in your lap because you were lucky enough to work for me!"
"If you had any common sense, you'd realize you don't deserve a single penny of that money!"
Sierra quickly jumped in, her voice full of poisonous innocence.
"Exactly! I poured wine on Mr. Logan's head and we still signed the deal, didn't we?"
"That proves Mr. Logan cares about the company's strength, not whatever dirty little tricks you were using!"
I took a deep breath, feeling a sharp pain in my stomach.
Sierra noticed me clutching my midsection and let out a nasty chuckle.
"Stop trying to act like a victim because you drank too much. You were just a side dish at the dinner table. Don't act like you actually have talent."
Actually, Sierra was partially right.
Drinking and flirting could never close a deal of that magnitude.
Mr. Logan's company was going through a massive technical transition. His real fear was the huge cost and risk of migrating his old data to a new system.
To solve that problem, I had spent months consulting with industry experts and tech geniuses.
I stayed up for countless nights. The final product I gave to Mr. Logan was a two-hundred-page detailed solution and risk assessment. It solved every single worry he had.
But Justin Thorne was a lazy boss. He only believed what he wanted to believe. He genuinely thought Mr. Logan signed because of their "brotherhood."
In the world of business, "brotherhood" isn't worth a dime compared to absolute profit.
Justin clearly loved Sierra's version of the story. He snorted.
"Exactly! Sierra hit the nail on the head…"
"Phoebe, stop wasting time. Come to my office and sign the resignation papers so we can be done with this."
I followed him into his office and took the pen he offered.
As I leaned down to sign, Justin's hand suddenly covered mine. He rubbed his greasy palm against my skin and whispered.
"You know, Phoebe, you're a beautiful woman. I understand why you took certain shortcuts."
"If you were even half as smart as Sierra and learned how to please me, you wouldn't have to fly around like a butterfly between all those other men. Doesn't that get exhausting?"
A wave of disgust washed over me. Without thinking, I ripped my hand away and slapped him across the face with everything I had!
That's everything available right now.
