Chapter 3

Chapter 3

I touched my stomach, feeling complete disbelief.

Landon and I had always used protection, except for… that one night. That absurd and messy night.

I would always remember that night.

Landon had drank a bit too much. The moment he saw me, he pulled me tightly into his arms.

He gently called my name. "Valerie."

Looking at his gentle gaze, I was completely overjoyed.

I thought I was finally going to melt his icy exterior. I thought my love was finally being reciprocated.

Landon was wild that night, exhausting me completely. But when I woke up from my sleep with a start, I found that he was no longer in the house.

His phone was on the nightstand, with a few notifications flashing on the screen.

I grabbed his phone and walked downstairs, only to find Landon drinking gloomily with some of his buddies.

Just as I was about to walk over, I suddenly heard a friend ask him, "Didn't Rosalie accept your proposal? Why do you still look so miserable? Are you having a hard time letting Valerie go?"

Landon let out a cold laugh. "She's a decent bedmate, but she is Rosalie's sister after all. I'm afraid that if she makes a scene, Rosalie will leave me."

Hearing Landon's words, I froze in place. It felt like a bucket of ice water had been poured over me, making my entire body shiver.

I never could have imagined this.

The man who was whispering sweet nothings to me just a second ago could be so heartless the next.

My first instinct was to run away.

But then I heard his friend ask, "But if you just get married like this, what about Valerie? She loves you so much, won't she lose her damn mind?"

Landon's eyes were full of coldness, and he sneered, "Let her go crazy then. We've been sleeping together for years, and I'm bored of her anyway."

"But she can't go entirely crazy. I'm worried she'll act recklessly and tell Rosalie a bunch of nonsense. So I just told Valerie to go overseas to help me look after some business. I'll trap her abroad and just throw her a bone."

Under the lights, Landon looked as handsome as ever.

When he mentioned Rosalie, his voice was so gentle.

But when he mentioned me, his tone was completely cold and annoyed.

It was like night and day.

Right then, Landon's phone suddenly started ringing.

The piercing ringtone shattered Landon's memories. When he saw me, his expression changed immediately.

He stood up and walked toward me, his tall figure completely overshadowing me and making it hard to breathe.

He held his hand out to me. "Give me the phone."

I mumbled, "Landon, what exactly am I to you?"

We spoke at the exact same time, but Landon didn't answer me. He just snatched the phone from my hand and his eyes softened. "Rosalie? What's wrong? Don't panic, I'm heading over right now."

After saying that, he didn't even look back and prepared to leave.

The lipstick mark I left on his neck was still clearly visible.

I called out to him, "Landon, after these seven years, are you really going to be this heartless?"

Landon stopped in his tracks, but he didn't turn around.

After a moment, he said, "Valerie, stop throwing a tantrum."

I looked at his retreating back, finding it impossible to believe.

This was the Landon I had loved for seven whole years.

I had known Landon for ten years, and I had loved him for seven.

His heart was so cold and hard, and no matter what I did, I couldn't warm it up.

That's everything available right now.
