Chapter 1

On the eve of our wedding, Serena's childhood friend, a mercenary who had been missing for five years, was poisoned during a mission.

His teammates brought him to her, covered in blood and barely clinging to life.

Serena, usually so calm and composed, had eyes red with tears.

Despite my desperate attempts to stop her, she locked herself in a room with him for the entire night.

I stayed outside that door, unable to close my eyes for even a second.

The next morning, when I confronted her with hysterical questions, she shielded him and didn't even try to hide the truth.

"I couldn't just watch Finn die. It was just my first time. What's wrong with having one night of freedom before the wedding?"

At that moment, every ounce of love I had for her vanished.

The sounds of their intimacy finally stopped after an entire night.

Serena walked out of the bedroom wearing a tattered nightgown.

Her legs were trembling so much that she had to lean against the wall for support.

The purple bruises on her exposed skin were painfully sharp to look at.

She walked straight past me to the dining table and poured herself a glass of water.

Then, she spoke with a tone of pure irritation.

"Logan, you've had your tantrum. I'm not feeling well right now, so stop giving me that look."

"It was just one night. If it saved Finn's life, it was worth it. Can you stop being so narrow-minded?"

"I'm narrow-minded?"

I let out a bitter, angry laugh.

"You threw yourself at another man, and you call that open-minded?"

Serena slammed the glass onto the floor, shattering it.

"Shut up!"

"Finn is in a fragile state. Don't you dare say a word to him, or you can forget about this wedding!"

The words had barely left her mouth when the medical team I had arranged rushed into the room.

Serena immediately hovered over them, not giving me a single glance.

Finn Wentworth was lying on my wedding bed, holding Serena's hand weakly.

"Serena, I'm so sorry for the trouble. I just wanted to see you one last time before I died..."

The air in the room was thick with a heavy, musky scent.

The overflowing trash can was a silent witness to their activities last night.

"Being with you at the end... it made me so happy. Can I be the one to walk you down the aisle on your wedding day?"

"Don't talk nonsense!"

Serena's eyes filled with tears as she gripped his hand. She screamed at the doctors.

"Save him! Do something!"

"Finn, you're going to be okay. I'm still waiting for you to be the one who takes off my wedding dress!"

They kissed right in front of me, like two lovers in a tragic movie.

Watching this scene play out felt like a punch to my stomach.

Everyone knew that Serena was the only person I cared about.

For her, I, a wealthy heir who never touched a stove, learned how to cook.

I gave her everything she ever asked for.

I even knelt outside my grandfather's house for three days and nights, letting him break my leg just so I could marry her.

I thought I had given her my heart and soul, but this was the reward.

"Logan, are you blind? Why are you standing there like a statue?"

Serena's voice snapped me back to reality, her eyes full of impatience.

"Call the Sterling family's medical specialists right now. If anything happens to him, you can't afford the consequences!"

When I didn't move, her face darkened. This was the first time I had ever ignored her.

"The wedding is tomorrow. Do you really want to pick a fight right now?"

"Oh, so you remember you're getting married tomorrow?"

I stared at her revealing, messy nightgown.

"When you were rolling around in bed with Finn, did the wedding cross your mind even once?"

"I was saving a life!"

I let out a cold sneer.

"Right. Saving a life."

"There was an antidote available, but you chose to use your body. How noble of you!"

Her face turned pale, then red. Before she could speak, the wedding planners arrived.

My bridesmaids walked in first, and their smiles froze when they saw the state of the room.

The lead bridesmaid quickly grabbed a towel and wrapped it around Serena.

She looked at me with a disapproving frown.

"Logan, I know tomorrow is the big day, but couldn't you have been a bit more careful?"

"She looks like she's been through a war. How is she supposed to see people like this?"

"He didn't do this to me!"

Serena glared at me from under the towel.

"Finn was poisoned last night. I was just helping him, but some people are just petty."
