Chapter 2

2

The atmosphere in the room turned to ice.

The playful smiles on the bridesmaids' faces vanished, replaced by awkward silence.

"Stop joking around. We're just happy you two are so in love. Go get changed!"

"Who's joking?"

Serena's voice rose to a shrill pitch. She walked to the bed and grabbed Finn's hand.

"Finn is right here. I saved him. Last night, we..."

"Shut up!"

The lead bridesmaid pinched her arm, cutting her off.

"I didn't do anything wrong! You know I've loved Finn since we were kids. Saving a life is a blessing!"

"Enough!"

Watching her act like a martyr made me feel exhausted. I turned to leave.

"Logan, have you had enough of your drama yet?"

Serena rushed over to block my path.

"The bridesmaids are here. You can't just walk away!"

The group of women at the door started chiming in.

"Mr. Sterling, don't be like this. You're getting married tomorrow. Five years of history isn't easy to throw away!"

"Exactly! Serena was just saving a life. It's not like she went out to cheat on purpose. Don't be so sensitive!"

"Finn and Serena are childhood friends. You'll all be friends soon. Be a man. Don't let people look down on you!"

I laughed coldly. "Being a cuckold is what makes people look down on me."

Before I could say more, Finn's condition suddenly worsened. The doctors rushed him to the hospital.

Serena's face was full of panic. She didn't look back at me until the ambulance was gone.

"Logan, are you happy now?"

"It's because of your nonsense that my efforts last night were wasted. If anything happens to Finn, you're a murderer!"

She actually had the nerve to bring up her "efforts" from last night?

I looked at the hatred in her eyes and felt a sharp sting in my chest.

Five years of devotion couldn't even compare to Finn showing up once.

Serena didn't even put on shoes before she tried to chase after the ambulance.

"Postpone the wedding. Finn needs someone to take care of him."

"What are you doing?"

The bridesmaids blocked her way this time.

"Serena, you're about to get married. Don't throw your life away over an impulse!"

"We can hire nurses for Finn. You need to focus on being a bride!"

Serena wouldn't listen. She struggled to break free.

I watched the circus with cold eyes and spoke up.

"Let her go. The engagement is off!"

Serena froze. She looked at me with pure disbelief.

"Logan, are you threatening me?"

Threatening her?

No, I was just tired.

Five years ago, Serena said she fell for me at first sight. She chased me relentlessly.

I ignored her for three months.

But then, during a massive hurricane, she drove through the storm to find me at my business trip just to make sure I was safe.

Back then, she had light in her eyes. Even though she was soaked and shivering, she smiled.

"I'm just glad you're okay."

In that moment, my heart skipped a beat. I fell for her hard.

After we got together, I helped the Thorne family secure a billion-dollar deal.

I used my money and influence to expand their business overseas, clearing every obstacle in their path.

In just a few years, her family went from a small company to an international brand because of the Sterling resources.

I gave her everything I had.

But Finn Wentworth appeared, and I lost everything in a single night.

"Fine! Cancel it! Finn is back anyway. I can finally chase my own happiness!"

"Logan, you brought this on yourself!"
