Chapter 3

Vivian left in a huff, leaving me alone in the house.

Before she walked out, she threw the box of fried chicken at my chest and snarled, "When you've figured this out and you're ready to be reasonable, I'll come back."

But how could I figure this out? There was nothing to figure out.

Ten years of living together, ten years of love.

And now she was speaking to me with such venom.

My phone buzzed again. It was another message from Cody.

He sent me a picture of an invitation to a car show.

[Hey man, there's a car show downtown tomorrow. You should come.]

[You definitely have to be there. There’s a surprise waiting for you.]

I also saw a new post on his social media feed―a picture of a hickey on his neck.

[A gift from a beautiful older woman, hehe.]

I was so angry I almost blocked him, but then I thought, this is all evidence!

I took screenshots of everything and saved them.

After that, the house was terrifyingly quiet.

Fried chicken was scattered on the floor, and our wedding photo was still hanging on the wall.

It used to seem so beautiful.

Now, it just felt like a sick joke.

Still, I went to her friend's house to find her. Every time we fought, that’s where she’d go, and I’d go beg her to come home.

I didn't want to go find her.

But it had been ten years.

She wasn't pregnant yet. If she was willing to change, I thought I could forgive her.

When I got there, her friend just stood awkwardly at the door.

She wouldn't let me in and couldn't seem to form a complete sentence.

Even a fool would know something was wrong inside.

I pushed past her and forced my way in.
