Chapter 1

The day before the year-end performance bonus settlement, my boss called me in for a chat. He said my commission was way too high and it was ruining our team unity. He suggested I give my commission to the new girl who got her job through family connections. I told him that was perfectly fine with me.

As a result, the boss received over three hundred house cancellation requests that very night. He demanded that I quickly go and beg the buyers to stay. I smiled and replied to him right away. "No thanks, I am afraid of hurting our team unity."

The atmosphere in the manager office was very subtle.

"Blair, your performance this year is truly outstanding. Naturally, your commission is also very huge."

"But it is the end of the year, and the company values collective harmony. Some colleagues mentioned privately that you taking so much makes things unfair."

I kept my smile and replied with a light tone. "My commission is indeed pretty good."

He did not seem to catch the coldness in my words. He just continued his fake caring act to persuade me. "You know the company wants everyone to feel like a team."

"Everyone sees your ability, but newcomers need more support. Especially our new girl Piper, she has a strong background but is having a hard time starting out."

I nodded as if I did not understand his true intention. "What exactly do you mean, Mr. Thorne?"

He finally realized I was playing dumb and made it clear.

"I am saying you make plenty of money, so why not share a little to help her out? It will help her start smoothly and make the team more united. You are so capable, so guiding a newcomer is a great contribution."

"Sure, no problem at all." I agreed without any hesitation. Seeing the surprised look on his face, I just sneered in my heart.

As soon as I agreed and returned to the sales floor, the mood changed. The coworkers who usually greeted me warmly were now completely cold. They did not even want to look at me.

"Look at that, some people just cannot keep their wealth. No matter how much commission she earns, she has to give it up when ordered."

"Exactly, she always acts so high and mighty. In the end, Piper still got the best of her."

Piper took the chance to walk over with a smug smile on her face. She put on a fake humble look and spoke loudly. "Oh my, I really need to thank my senior for taking care of me! People say it is good to rest under a big tree, and with your help, I have nothing to worry about."

I smiled faintly at her. "Yes, it is always good to have someone guide you and save you from making mistakes."

Piper froze for a second, and her smugness vanished briefly. She quickly went back to acting pitiful. "I am just new here, so I really have to trouble you a lot."

A few coworkers who usually kissed up to me suddenly changed their tune. They followed Piper around and flattered her instead. "Well, our Piper is different. She gets help from noble people right off the bat."

Someone else sneered in a low voice. "Blair will not be able to keep her top sales crown for much longer."

I listened to them sucking up to Piper one by one. I just smiled slightly and said absolutely nothing.

Usually, whenever I sold a house, I would order iced lattes and donuts for everyone to share. Now, all I got from them were endless mocking comments.

I packed up my things and prepared to leave the office.

Mr. Thorne rushed over when he saw me packing. He frowned deeply and asked me a question. "Blair, it is not even lunch break yet. Where do you think you are going?"

I smiled and spoke in a very calm tone. "I am not feeling well today. I want to take a sick leave."

His eyes darkened instantly. "Blair, do you have a problem with the company arrangements?"

I shook my head looking totally innocent. "No problem at all. The company asked me to cooperate, so I will definitely obey."

Seeing my indifferent attitude, the boss could hardly hold back his temper. "Then what about your handover work? You still need to arrange the clients who are paying their final balances, right?"

I looked up and gave him a very meaningful smile. "About the handover, Piper is really good at handling things. Just let her take over those clients. She is new anyway, so she should not mind the extra practice."

Hearing this, Piper immediately stepped forward. She put on a shy and sweet expression. "Mr. Thorne, please rest assured. I will definitely do my best."

The boss patted her shoulder with a huge smile on his face. "Of course, you are a true talent in our company! This is a bit beneath your skills, but you must perform well."

I just smiled slightly and did not say another word. I turned around and walked straight out of the office.

As soon as I stepped outside, I took out my phone. I opened my family group chat full of rich aunts and uncles. "Everyone, do not pay the final balances yet. The situation has changed, so wait for my notice."
