Chapter 1

After developing face blindness, I could only recognize the face of my boyfriend, Jaxon.

On my birthday, he played a twisted game with his friends.

They all hid in a massive VIP club and made me find him by his voice alone.

If I picked the wrong man, the rule was that I had to spend the night with him.

I listened with everything I had and finally found him in a dark booth, begging him to take me home.

He gave a soft, dark chuckle. "Willa is such a good girl. I'll take you home right now."

After a night of absolute madness, I woke up to a phone call from the real Jaxon.

"You freaking picked the wrong guy! The one who took you home last night was my twin brother!"

1.

For my birthday, Jaxon made me put on a stunning, tight dress and took me to The Obsidian to celebrate.

The Obsidian was the biggest, most elite club in Riverside. It was where the wealthy and powerful spent their nights.

It had ten floors, and Jaxon had booked three of them just for my party.

A lot of his friends were there.

Looking at the crowd, their faces were nothing but a blur of pixels to me.

I couldn't remember what they looked like, but I knew their voices.

At the last party, Jaxon had pushed me into the middle of them just to watch me panic when I couldn't find him.

He loved toy with me like that.

He knew he was the only anchor in my blurry world.

I tightened my grip on his hand, my voice trembling. "Jax, it's my birthday. Can we just skip the games today?"

He smiled gently, his voice sounding so sweet. "Don't worry, Willa. I won't throw you to the wolves today."

Looking at his kind expression, I was naive enough to believe him.

But I quickly realized that things were never that simple with him.

Jaxon pulled me onto the sofa and lit a cigarette, looking completely at ease.

"Today is my girl's birthday, and I've prepared a special game. You guys want in?"

The crowd immediately started cheering.

"Hell yeah, Jaxon! What kind of wicked idea do you have for her this time?"

"Count me in! Jaxon's games are always a thrill."

My heart hammered against my ribs, and cold sweat broke out across my skin.

That same cruel laughter reminded me of the last time they nearly crossed the line.

I started to shake in his arms.

"Willa, why are you shaking?"

"You need to make me look good today. You're the star of the show."

His voice drifted lazily from above my head.

Then, he turned back to his friends. "The star of the game is still Willa."

"Everyone, including me, is going to hide. You can make noise, and Willa has to find me using only her ears."

His words felt like a bucket of ice water being poured over me.

"Jax, what happens if she picks the wrong person?" someone joked.

"If she gets it wrong, she spends the night with whoever she found."

My brain felt like it was exploding.

"No… Jax, please don't do this to me."

A sense of total helplessness took over. I was on the verge of tears.

Jaxon just casually stroked my hand and chuckled. "Willa, why so little confidence?"

"I'm your boyfriend. You mean to tell me you can't even recognize my voice?"

This wasn't the first time he'd played a game like this.

He always found new ways to humiliate me.

Sometimes he'd bet his friends if I could pick him out of a crowd at first glance.

Other times, he'd leave me stranded just to watch me crumble.

Because I could only see his face, he was certain I would never leave him, no matter how much he hurt me.
