Chapter 2

2.

No matter how much I begged, Jaxon went through with the game.

The game started, and everyone began to scatter. Jaxon pushed my hands away and stood up to leave.

I chased after him, crying. "Jax, don't go. I'm begging you."

A man suddenly stepped out and blocked my path.

"Willa, over here. I'm Jaxon."

He wasn't. Not even close.

Jaxon didn't have a voice that rough.

I pushed him away, frantically searching for Jaxon's silhouette.

But because of that man's interference, Jaxon had vanished into the shadows.

In the massive club, people were running everywhere around me.

Voices kept calling out to me. "Willa, I'm over here!"

"It's me, Jax!"

"Willa, don't be scared. Come to me."

Dozens of different voices echoed in my ears.

My head felt like it was going to burst.

Tears blurred my vision as I scrambled through the halls.

Someone had scattered glass marbles on the floor. I slipped and fell over and over again, looking like a total mess.

Who would believe that I used to be a famous painter with a huge following?

"Jax… Jax…"

I crawled up and called his name repeatedly.

He was the only thing left in my world.

Why did he have to torture me like this?

But I knew I had to finish this game. If I didn't, he wouldn't let me leave the club tonight.

I searched everywhere―the private booths, the bar, the first three floors.

I couldn't find him. All I heard were voices that didn't belong to him, mocking me from every corner.

I curled into a ball in a dark corner, covering my head.

Suddenly, a shadow stood in front of me.

It was a woman. I could tell by her long hair.

Before I could ask who she was, she grabbed me by my hair and yanked me up.

"I'll take you to Jaxon."

She dragged me into the restroom and slammed my head into a sink filled with water.

A few other girls stood nearby, laughing their heads off.

"Haha, Sienna, you really know how to have a good time."

"Jax isn't around right now anyway. Let's give this girl a birthday she'll never forget."

My heart sank.

The woman attacking me was Sienna.

She was Jaxon's childhood friend. She was obsessed with him and hated my guts.

The last time, she had dressed up as a server and locked me in a walk-in freezer. If a staff member hadn't found me, I would have frozen to death.

Jaxon hadn't even scolded her afterward.

He just told me, "Sienna was just playing around. Don't be so sensitive. Besides, you're fine, aren't you?"

I suddenly felt so pathetic. Why was I still with a man like this?
