Chapter 3
3
Xander drove the car to a remote mountain road. He had prepared the scene for a fake accident.
When we reached the spot, he suddenly jerked the steering wheel.
The tires screeched as the car "lost control" and slammed into the guardrail.
The impact sent my head crashing against the window. I blacked out.
Xander pretended to be lightly injured. He crawled out and called 911.
Soon, the ambulance arrived. We were rushed back to the hospital.
Using his authority and connections, he bypassed the usual protocols to schedule an emergency surgery.
He told everyone my eyes were severely damaged in the crash. He claimed my corneas were ruptured and I had internal bleeding.
He showed them forged medical reports. The staff, unaware of the lie, began preparing for the transplant.
Meanwhile, Shelly was already waiting in a secret ward for her wicked "gift."
I slowly regained consciousness in the operating room. My head felt like it was being split open with an axe.
It was cold and silent, save for the steady beeping of the monitors.
Then, I heard voices coming from the adjacent prep room.
"Xander, what if Gianna hates me when she finds out the truth?"
"Shelly, you lost your sight saving me back then. I promised you I'd bring back your light. I'll handle Gianna. Don't worry."
Hearing that felt like a lightning strike.
A year ago, Xander and I were organizing supplies in the hospital's old warehouse.
Shelly was there as a pharmaceutical rep. A short circuit caused a massive fire.
The flames spread fast. Xander was pinned down by a falling shelf in the middle of the inferno.
I didn't think twice. I dragged him out, leaving a permanent burn scar on my right arm. Shelly had long since run away.
After that accident, Xander confessed to me. I thought it was a beautiful, mutual love.
I never imagined his tenderness was a facade. He only loved Shelly because he thought she was his savior.
But the person who actually saved him was me!
I wanted to scream, but my mouth wouldn't move.
A moment later, Xander entered in his surgical scrubs. He picked up a gleaming scalpel.
I stared at him, my heart hammering against my ribs so hard it hurt.
"BAM!"
The operating room doors were kicked open. A group of police officers rushed in.
That's everything available right now.
