I was leaving the office one evening when I ran into them.

Myla was clinging to Silas’s arm, acting incredibly intimate. “Silas, this is my sister, Sera.”

He gave me a polite nod. “Leaving work, Sera? We’re heading out. Do you need a ride?”

Myla pouted at him playfully. “Silas, we should definitely take her home. She looks so tired.”

I looked at them both, my voice cold. “No. I have more things to handle.”

As I turned to leave, Myla gave me a wicked grin. “Oh! Are you going on a date, Sera? Am I finally getting a brother-in-law? You really need to be careful with who you choose. Don't settle for someone who treats you poorly!”

She looked at Silas with watery eyes. “Silas, why don't you introduce her to some of your friends? At least we’d know their backgrounds. What do you think?”

Silas smiled. “Of course. I’d be happy to.”

His friends? Those spoiled, cruel animals he hung out with?

I forced a smile. “I’m not interested. Goodbye.”

I walked away, refusing to look back.

Behind me, I heard Myla’s fake, hurt voice. “Did I upset her? I was just trying to help her find someone.”

Silas’s smooth, gentle voice comforted her. “Don't worry, honey. You’re just too kind-hearted for your own good.”
