Chapter 2

2

I had just lain down on the guest room bed when I received an email.

"Ms. Campbell, congratulations on your acceptance into our Jewelry Design program. Please report to the school as soon as possible."

Looking at this email, I smelled a hint of freedom and couldn't help but smile.

My stagnant life had finally taken a step forward.

The next morning, I saw Josh's assistant waiting in the living room as soon as I got up.

I looked at the folder on the table and said to him, "You can go ahead if you have something to do. I'll get his signature."

The assistant hesitated for a moment, looked at his watch, then handed me the folder and left.

I placed the divorce agreement in the middle of the folder and started making breakfast.

When Josh got up, I was eating noodles.

He glanced at it and said with disgust, "Why are you eating this? I want porridge."

After I finished the last bite, I got up and handed him the folder.

"Mr. Lee brought it this morning."

Josh opened it and signed without even looking.

He didn't forget to complain that I was even stealing the assistant's job.

After taking the folder, I was about to put on my shoes and leave.

Josh said impatiently from behind, "Ashley, I want porridge!"

I turned around and looked at him calmly.

"I'm going to return the documents and then go to the hospital."

Just as Josh was about to say something, Nancy walked out of the bedroom.

"Mr. Montgomery, am I late?"

As Josh turned to talk to her, I opened the door and left.

I didn't see the meaningful look in Josh's eyes when he heard the door open.

After leaving the house, I pulled out the divorce agreement.

Maybe it was because of all those years together, but I had practically lowered myself to the dust.

Josh didn't even look at the document before signing it.

There's a 30-day cooling-off period for divorce.

Thirty days later would be the day I left.

After returning from the lawyer's office, I went straight into the bedroom and started packing my luggage.

Josh looked surprised.

"Didn't I say you don't have to move out?"

I paused and said perfunctorily, "It's not very convenient for me to come and go now that Secretary Smith is living here."

Josh's next words were stuck in his throat.

He felt that Ashley had changed a little after returning from the hospital.

As he was about to ask, he heard Nancy calling him for dinner.

After Josh went out, I closed my eyes and continued packing.

Looking at the clothes in the small separate compartment, I laughed self-deprecatingly.

After six years of marriage, these were all the clothes I had in this house.

After packing my clothes, I put the gifts I had given Josh in a garbage bag.

I had prepared a gift for him for every holiday and birthday over the years.

But now they were all piled up in the corner, gathering dust.

There was no point in keeping them.

As I dragged my suitcase to the guest room, Nancy warmly invited me to join them for dinner.

Josh was clumsily peeling shrimp for her, not even glancing at me.

I forced a smile and said politely, "No, thank you. You guys eat."

Josh looked up at me after hearing this.

I calmly looked away and walked towards the guest room.

"Wait!" Josh suddenly called out to me.

I turned around and looked at him questioningly.

"Come and eat with us." There was a hint of awkwardness in Josh's tone.

I looked at him in surprise, but ultimately declined.

Josh didn't expect me to refuse his invitation and said angrily, "Suit yourself."
