After putting down my luggage, I accidentally caught sight of myself in the mirror.

With delicate features, when I smiled, it was as if I was wearing a mask.

There was an unspeakable weariness in my eyes.

I gave a wry smile. This didn't look like someone in their twenties.

Just a little longer, and I would be completely free.

As I lay on the bed, about to fall asleep, Josh suddenly burst in, panic in his eyes.

"Ashley, come with me to take Nancy to the hospital! She burned her hand!"

I instinctively frowned and wanted to refuse, but Josh had already dragged me out.

"Mr. Montgomery, you don't have to trouble Ashley to take me to the hospital. It's nothing... Ouch..."

Nancy clutched her splashed hand.

My eyes fell on the few drops of chili oil splashed on the back of her hand. It did look "painful."

"Burns can be serious. It might leave a scar."

Josh spoke anxiously.

Looking at the scene in front of me, my eyes involuntarily fell on the scar on the back of my left hand.

That day, when a group of Josh's friends came to the house for hot pot, Nancy deliberately splashed a whole bowl of hot soup on my hand.

When I wanted to confront her with a cold face, Josh immediately shielded her, looking at me with disdain.

"Nancy didn't mean to. I see you're fine. Don't make a fuss about it."

In the end, I took painkillers to ease the pain before taking a taxi to the hospital myself.

A scar was left on the back of my hand.

Seeing how anxious Josh was, I realized that he knew burns could leave scars.

It was just that I was the one who got burned then.

It was rush hour when we took Nancy to the hospital.

Josh kept urging me to drive faster from the back seat.

Just as the light turned green and we started moving, a car suddenly lost control and rushed towards us.

At the moment of impact, I felt a sharp pain in my lower body.

Josh's voice came from the back seat, tense.

"Ashley! How are you feeling? The ambulance is almost here, just hold on!"

Hearing that he didn't sound injured, I remembered that the back of the car had hit a crash barrier.

"Ashley..."

Before Josh could finish his second sentence, he was attracted by Nancy's cries of pain.

"Nancy, where are you hurt? Where does it hurt?"

Nancy said weakly, "My hand still hurts a little, but don't worry about me. Ashley seems to be seriously injured. Go and check on her."

Hearing this, Josh felt even more distressed.

He told Nancy to bear with it, the ambulance would be here soon.

The ambulance arrived quickly.

Josh pulled the paramedics who wanted to check on me.

"There's someone else injured here too, come and take a look!"

Hearing his anxious tone, the paramedics thought it was a serious patient and sent a doctor over.

Not long after, the doctor's scolding voice was heard.

"You're being ridiculous! This person is fine, don't waste our time!"

Josh, who usually cared a lot about his image, was now making a scene at the accident site, saying he would complain about the doctor neglecting a patient!

In the end, the doctor had no choice but to give Nancy a simple bandage.

As Josh was about to take Nancy to the hospital, he passed by me, who had just been rescued.

The moment he saw the wound on my leg, he froze, a panicked look in his eyes for the first time.

"Ashley, does it hurt? I'll find you the best doctor right away!"

At this time, Nancy also whispered, "I'm sorry, Ashley. It's all my fault. I shouldn't have asked Mr. Montgomery to take me to the hospital. I should have endured the pain, then this wouldn't have happened."

Her pitiful appearance undoubtedly made Josh feel extremely distressed, and he no longer had time to care about my injuries, immediately turning back to comfort her.

When the paramedics asked me if I had any family, I closed my eyes calmly and said no, let's go.
