Chapter 1

My husband was a world-class ski coach who trained dozens of champions.

Yet, during a routine session on a beginner slope, he let my son have an accident.

My little boy never came back.

I was drowning in grief, clutching my son's ashes, while my husband packed his bags for a trip.

He told me there was a more important competition and that I needed to move on.

"Joanna, skiing is an extreme sport. Accidents happen. Crying won't bring him back."

"Get some rest. We can always have another baby later."

But that night, his new assistant, Sienna Reid, posted on social media.

It was a photo of a luxury hotel and an expensive dinner. She was cuddling in a man's arms.

【First time on a training trip. I forgot to check the safety nets. It almost cost me my job! So annoying. Thankfully, my babe helped me out and saved me.】

Then, she added a caption: 【Double tap if you would confess your love to your soulmate for 18 likes!】

The watch on her wrist looked familiar. I had bought it for Gavin's birthday.

Inside the case, I had engraved "G & J"―Gavin and Joanna.

A cold chill washed over me. I felt a bone-deep exhaustion.

I typed a reply: 【Don't worry about the likes. His wife gives you permission to be together.】

Seconds later, my phone rang. Gavin's voice was full of rage.

"It was just a joke! Why are you being so dramatic?"

"She just joined the team. If you talk like that, she'll never be able to show her face again!"

"I told you, we can have another baby. Stop acting like a lunatic."

"I never realized how unreasonable you were. Delete it in ten seconds, or we are getting a divorce."

I hung up. On the annual coach certification review from the National Sports Committee, I added his name and a detailed accident report.

Reason: Gross negligence leading to a fatality.

If you want to protect her so badly, you can both be blacklisted from this industry.

The man who killed my son doesn't deserve a single night of peace.

I sat curled in a chair, hugging my knees.

Gavin's name flashed on the screen again.

His voice sounded like ice through the speaker.

"Joanna! Are you deaf or just insane?"

"I am telling you for the last time―delete that comment."

I didn't say a word. I just listened.

On the other end, I heard the wind and a woman's soft, whiny voice.

"Coach Sinclair, don't be mad. It is all my fault..."

It was Sienna.

I gripped my phone, my other hand stroking the cold urn on the table.

That was my son, Leo.

Gavin's patience snapped.

"I am warning you, Joanna. Don't make a scene."

"It is not good for you, for me, or for this family."

"This family?"

I finally spoke. My voice was a dry rasp.

"Gavin, our family died along with our son."

"He died on that slope because there was no safety net."

He went silent for a few seconds.

Then, he exploded.

"You are impossible!"

He slammed the phone down.

The house returned to a deathly silence.

I looked at Sienna's post again.

The photo of their interlaced fingers and the watch were like a slap in the face.

"G & J." What a pathetic joke.

I didn't delete the comment.

Instead, I dialed a different number.

"Mr. Miller, it is Joanna."

"Prepare the papers. I am filing for divorce."

"Also, I need the inheritance documents my father left regarding Summit Peak Group."

"Yes, the company where Gavin is the head coach."

"I am taking back everything that belongs to me."

I hung up and pulled Leo's urn close to my chest.

"Don't worry, baby. Mommy is done crying."

"Now, Mommy is going to get justice."
