Chapter 3

The company worked fast.

Thirty minutes later, Gavin called from an unknown number.

His voice was shaking with fury.

"Joanna! What the hell do you think you are doing?"

"I could ask you the same thing," I replied.

"You are firing my team and freezing my projects! You are ruining the company's future!"

He was trying to play the hero card.

"Summit Peak's future isn't built on lies and blood, Gavin."

"Your team is paid by my father's company, yet they insult me and their late teammate."

"Why would I keep feeding a pack of ungrateful wolves?"

Gavin went quiet.

"They are just young. They didn't know better..."

"Leo was young, too," I interrupted. "He didn't know better either. That is why he is dead."

Silence stretched between us.

Finally, he spat through gritted teeth.

"You are going to destroy us both."

"I don't care."

"Don't push me, Joanna."

"I am waiting."

I hung up.

Soon after, a courier arrived with a package from Mr. Miller.

A thick stack of papers.

The divorce petition was on top.

I didn't hesitate. I signed my name in bold letters.

I packed a box of Gavin's things.

His trophies, his gear, our family photos.

I taped it shut and called a rush delivery service.

Destination: Summit Peak Group, Head Coach's Office.

Recipient: Mr. Sinclair.
