Chapter 2

2.

When I got back from the hospital, Fiona met me at the door and immediately asked about the clothes.

I put my medicine in my room before telling her I didn't buy anything.

Fiona's face turned pitch black with rage.

She pointed a finger at my face and screamed.

"How can you be so heartless! Xavier's skin is so sensitive, it breaks out in rashes at the slightest touch! You did this on purpose, didn't you?"

I looked at her bloodshot eyes and distorted features.

She looked at me as if I were her worst enemy.

I let out a soft chuckle.

"Fiona, how exactly do you know his skin turns red at the slightest touch?"

A flash of guilt crossed her face, but she quickly stood her ground.

"What are you implying? Dirty-minded people see everything as dirty. I've known him forever, of course I know his health issues!"

I didn't say a word. I just kept smiling at her.

Fiona shifted uncomfortably under my gaze. Then she exploded in anger.

"I truly regret marrying someone like you."

"You're useless! you can't make real money, and you're incredibly petty!"

If this were the old me, those words would have broken my heart.

I probably would have started a massive screaming match.

Now, I only felt a deep sense of pity for myself.

Before I could speak, Xavier chimed in with a pathetic, whimpering voice.

"I'll just wear whatever. It's fine. Please don't fight because of me."

His words only made Fiona more protective.

"How can you say that? Your skin is so sensitive. What if you have a reaction?"

She turned back to me with a sneer. "He didn't buy them because he doesn't know quality. I'll go buy them myself."

Fiona grabbed her keys and headed out into the sudden thunderstorm.

I watched the torrential rain outside and felt a bitter irony.

Once, I had worked overtime until 11 PM and realized it was pouring.

I waited thirty minutes for an Uber but couldn't get one.

I called Fiona to ask for a ride.

She had snapped at me over the phone.

"It's a literal storm outside. You want me to risk my life to pick you up?"

At the time, I apologized immediately.

I truly believed my request was selfish.

But looking at the rain now, I realized my request wasn't the problem. Her lack of love for me was.

After Fiona left, Xavier's expression changed instantly.

He looked at me with pure disdain.

"You're such a loser. Married to Fiona for years, and you're still nothing compared to me."

"Why don't you beg me? Maybe I'll teach you how to actually please a woman."

I wasn't surprised by his two-faced behavior at all.

"Aren't you afraid I'll tell Fiona the truth?"

His eyes were filled with mockery.

"Go ahead. Tell her. See who she actually believes."

He was right about that.

Between him and me, Fiona would always choose him.

Before Xavier moved back, people told me Fiona had an irreplaceable person in her heart.

I never took it seriously.

I thought since she never mentioned him, it was just a rumor.

But three days before Xavier returned, the smiles on Fiona's face increased.

On the day he landed, the workaholic Fiona canceled all her meetings to pick him up.

In the month since he'd been back, our arguments had skyrocketed.

At first, I believed I could win her back.

But the moment Fiona brought him into our home, my heart finally died.

The sound of a car pulling into the driveway signaled Fiona's return.

Xavier immediately grabbed a glass of water and poured it over himself.

His face transformed into a mask of pure agony.

"Sian, how could you do this..."

Before he finished, Fiona pushed the door open.

She saw Xavier's wet clothes and his heartbroken expression.

Her face turned murderous.

"Sian Miller, what the hell did you do!"

I didn't even get a chance to speak. Fiona stormed over in three quick steps.

She raised her hand and delivered a stinging slap to my face.

"You disgust me."

She grabbed Xavier's arm and led him into the guest bedroom.

I pushed my tongue against my throbbing cheek and laughed.

I glanced up at the security camera hidden in the corner.

Fiona, I hope you still feel this way about your first love once you see the truth.
