Chapter 3

3 [Everyone's calling her a homewrecker, me too. I can't risk losing everything for her. But she keeps being nice to me, and now I just feel bad for her.]

[Tiffany, you don't need to climb that mountain. I've known for ten years how you feel. When you get back, I'll tell you how I really feel about you.]

[Tiffany, I was wrong. Please come back. How can you leave me like this? If I could do it all over again, I would pick you.]

I swiped and swiped, my fingers getting numb. The screen was all wet with my tears.

He loved her.

Greg had fooled everyone, including me. Including Tiffany.

And, most of all, himself.

"Aren't you gonna try to stop her? What if she falls and gets hurt?"

I wasn't about to worry about my husband's groupie.

I just wanted to see him make a choice, and finally close the book on this twelve-year relationship.

Greg looked away, trying to act casual.

"Nah, she'll be fine. It's just a hike. I'm not gonna chase after her so it looks like I care."

But he was nervously picking at his nails, a dead giveaway that he was stressed.

I sighed. "I was thinking about checking out that mountain too. Since Tiffany's going, why don't you invite her along? We can all go together."

He jumped at the chance. "Okay."

The next day, we met at the trailhead.

Tiffany glared at me.

While Greg was getting water, she dropped the act.

"Amanda, you're married to Greg. Why are you being so annoying? Don't you have enough? Leave some for the rest of us. A viper like you doesn't deserve Greg."

I wasn't about to take that lying down.

"And what are you? Some thirsty, used-up bimbo?"

She just laughed. She'd been trash talked so many times she had her guard up.

"Wanna bet who Greg cares about more?"

She lifted her leg and slammed her ankle against the steps.

As Tiffany fell, I was shoved out of the way.

"Tiffany!"

Greg dropped the water and rushed over to her, catching her in his arms.
